Pilot Post - Decoding Skibadee

One project i never got round to doing yet as it it never seemed important, and still isn't, is transcribing the lyrics that the Mc's spout at raves to truly understand if they are a) Talking bollocks or b) Have something important or poetic to say .. Gave it a go today for the first time with a bit of the drum and bass MC 'Skibadee'

"London be the place that i live, All i see is take and no give
Lets clear the mist, Road just full of the man the over they, that get heartless
To many man get drawn in, trying to make an escape, bad man thing
Two thing, we’d not one thing, X amount of fab, like Butlins
Ready to mingle, free single, some draw plain, pop the weasel
Ask for the gun to get the cold still, some men work with it like legal
We do see even that men do, some alone, some a cruise
Who got shop with the latest news, hold it down, don’t be a fool

Weyyooooo
Move your body viiiiii
Move
Laughs .. ",

So is he a) Talking bollocks or b) Have something important or poetic to say .. Bit of both really, lot of stuff that does not make sense but he's starts off on a good foot by trying to tell us that some men in London in that scene are striving for a more soulful infrastructure, concious that mcing and djing isn't the most humanitarian line of work.

In this line "Ready to mingle, free single, some draw plain, pop the weasel " i presume he's talking about going out after performing and possibly having sexual intercourse ie pop the weasel. In the line "Weyyooooo, Move your body viiiiii, Move" i think he is simply encouraging you to dance, something that you were probably doing already, or he could be just commenting on what he was seeing. To fully understand his message i need to transcribe the full set but that would take ages and i can't be bothered.

Next time (if i do it) i'll be over analysing the of the lyrics of the MC's from the Heartless Crew.

Note from Tim Drage - "some alone, some are crews" surely?

Note from Rosena Wenonoah - "From what i can see its all good. being sucked into tough guy/ violent shenanigans to get by. the 'some draw plain, pop the weasel' and following couple of lines i think are about shooting/ using a gun. 'Who got shop with the latest news, hold it down, don’t be a fool' has got to be a reminder not to rat someone out/ the consequences of 'shopping' someone to the police etc.. and i second Tim's 'crews' suggestion
